Program Goals:
1) Training in the skills and principles of laboratory diagnosis
2) Teaching experience in the veterinary curriculum
3) Clinical research and scientific publication
4) Eligibility for ACVP board certification in clinical pathology
Program Strengths:
Large interactive clinical pathology group, high caseload, fully integrated and computerized medical record system, medical and laboratory informatics, hematopathology, clinical chemistry, cytology, outstanding medical library, digital photomicroscopy, intramural funding sources for clinical research.
Training Activities:
Clinical diagnostic duty, laboratory management rounds, cytology/hematology rounds, independent study, seminars, teaching professional students, hands-on rotations through laboratory areas including ICU labs, rotation at IDEXX Laboratories, optional rotations (eg, San Diego Zoo lab, Marine Mammal Center lab).

Immunocytochemistry, surgical pathology, microbiology
Coursework:
None required, optional in 3rd year if entering PhD program; statistics, molecular basis of disease, histopathology, immunology.
