Program Goals:
  1. Guide development of diagnostic skills.
  2. Foster development of research/scientific skills through graduate degree work and attendance/presentation at national meetings.
  3. Provide experience in instruction of veterinary students, interns, and residents.
  4. Prepare for ACVP board certification.
  5. Produce clinical pathologists prepared for successful careers in academia, research, or diagnostics.
Program Strengths:
Solid caseload including great exposure to avian and exotic samples; extensive rounds schedule; good working relationships with both teaching hospital clinicians and anatomic pathologists; easy access to flow cytometry, PCR, and electron microscopy; current research at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine includes work in aquaculture, vector-borne diseases, Mycobacterium spp, cardiovascular physiology, prostate cancer, simian retroviruses, and more.
Training Activities:
Formal coursework, attendance/participation in rounds (including clinical and anatomic pathology subjects), participation in clinical diagnostic duty (teaching hospital and diagnostic laboratory cases), experience in teaching veterinary medical students, attendance and presentations at national meetings.

Anatomic pathology (surgical biopsy, necropsy), molecular biology, infectious diseases, aquaculture.
Coursework:
Advanced clinical pathology, cell pathology, systemic pathology, statistics, biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology.
