Program Goals:
1) Build a knowledge base to successfully complete ACVP board examination
2) Provide opportunities to teach in small group, didactic, and/or laboratory situations
3) Provide research opportunities
4) Encourage advanced graduate degree
Program Strengths:
Wide variety of submissions in hematology, hemostasis, cytology with cytology/histology correlations; Opportunities for resident projects leading to presentations (oral, poster) and publications; Close interaction with anatomic residency program; Opportunities to participate in short rotations outside of clinical pathology (clinics, reference laboratories, industry); Close interaction with 3 boarded clinical pathologists; Yearly mock board exam; High success rate on passing ACVP board examination.
Training Activities:
Formal coursework, seminars, rounds, independent study, teaching, journal clubs, clinical diagnostic duty, research, hands-on learning of hematology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, hemostasis techniques.
Additional Training Areas:
Surgical biopsy, necropsy, transmission electron microscopy, outside rotations (clinics, reference laboratories, industry).
Coursework:
Systemic pathology, general pathology, statistics, biochemistry, immunology, other courses available depending on degree tract.
