Goals: |
| 1)
Develop proficiency in laboratory methods, skills, and interpretation
of results, emphasizing an understanding of pathophysiologic
mechanisms of disease. |
| 2)
Acquire experience in research principles and techniques. |
| 3)
Provide instruction and gain experience in teaching veterinary
clinical pathology. |
| 4)
Perform a prospective hypothesis-driven clinical pathologic
research project to be published in a relevant journal and
presented at the annual ACVP meeting. |
| 5)
Successfully complete the ACVP certifying examination in veterinary
clinical pathology. |

faculty at a world-renowned veterinary institution, extensive research
resources, large and varied diagnostic case load, clinical laboratory
well-equipped and staffed with experienced medical technologists,
participation in innovative teaching modalities, interactive and collaborative
atmosphere with clinical services faculty and residents. |
| Training
Activities: |
Extensive
training by direct experience in clinical laboratory disciplines
including hematology, clinical chemistry, cytology, flow cytometry,
immunohistochemistry, cytochemistry, general immunology, and urinalysis.
Participate in and present seminars on case interpretations, cytology/histopathology
correlations, and selected topics from current literature. |
Additional
Training Areas: |
Rotations
through surgical pathology, endocrinology, oncology, medicine, toxicology,
and comparative coagulation. |
| Coursework:
|
Few
required courses; Statistics is recommended, other coursework is
chosen at the discretion of the resident in consultation with the
clinical pathology faculty. |
