Program Goals:
1) Proficiency in all aspects of clinical pathology suitable for preparation to write the ACVP examination
2) Competency in research and use of modern research techniques
3) Broad core training that prepares trainees for diverse career opportunities
Program Strengths:
Design and execution of research project, analysis and interpretation of results; internal funding available for small animal and equine research projects; modern comprehensive clinical pathology laboratory; up-to-date automated equipment; digital photomicroscope; many ancillary technologies available such as flow cytometry, molecular diagnostics, microdissection, real-time PCR, immunochemistry; excellent caseload; surgical pathology training, specialty rounds and specific board training sessions available, including mock board exam annually; interaction with two additional Animal Health Laboratory clinical pathologists
Training Activities:
Formal coursework, rounds, journal club, independent study, clinical diagnostic duty, research projects, manuscript publication, conference attendance.
Additional Training Areas:
Surgical biopsy, research methods.

Hematology, clinical chemistry, cytology, applied clinical pathology, statistics, epidemiology, surgical pathology, immunobiology, mechanisms of disease.

Retroviral infections in cattle, hereditary nephritis in dogs, quality assurance, evaluation of laboratory data, cytology, viral infections in companion animals, mechanisms of inflammatory lung disease in horses, lymphoid neoplasia in animals, acquired coagulopathies in dogs, IMHA in dogs, fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome in chickens, mechanisms of immune-mediated disease in horses, BVDV infection in cattle, innovative teaching technologies.
