Program Goals:
1) Competency in discipline of laboratory medicine
2) Generation of new knowledge in applying laboratory medicine to solution of clinical and research problems
3) Teaching and communication to diverse audiences
4) ACVP board certification
5) Post-residency graduate programs (MS, PhD), if desired
Program Strengths:
 Hematology, cytology, immunocytochemistry, infectious diseases, oncology, quality assurance; computerized laboratory information system; strong interactive biomedical community.
Training Activities:
Clinical diagnostic duty, training in instrumentation and QC, seminars, rounds (including combined rounds with internal medicine), journal clubs, teaching professional students, research projects.
Additional Training Areas:
 Surgical biopsy, transmission electron microscopy, parasitology, microbiology, immunology, immunohistochemistry, molecular techniques.
Coursework:
None required; opportunities for coursework in pathology, immunology, molecular techniques, QC, and others.
