Program Goals:

1) Eligibility for ACVP board and UF residency certification

2) Develop teaching skills in veterinary clinical pathology

3) Exposure to research and scientific writing

4) Training in diagnostic clinical pathology and laboratory medicine

Program Strengths:

Direct daily supervision of resident while on duty, clinical rounds, high exposure to avian and zoological animal species samples, annual mock board exam, surgical pathology rotations, computer-catalogued teaching sets (ASVCP cases from 1988-present, >2400 glass slide specimens, >1600 slide transparencies, cytology/histopathology correlated cases) International Pathology Slide Bank laser disc and CD, digital image collection capabilities, Aperio Versa digital slide scanner.

Training Activities:

Approximately 75% diagnostic clinical duty and 25% independent study and research, clinical rounds, seminars, journal club, research projects, formal and informal coursework, hands-on exposure to laboratory equipment, training in quality control procedures, large and small group teaching in clinical pathology courses.

Additional Training Areas:

Surgical pathology and optional externships for commercial lab and/or industry exposure.
